Alumni in the News - Rob Hale '84 and Peter Trovato '01
September 25, 2009 | Five years ago, Peter Trovato '01 formed a grassroots initiative to raise money for the families of Massachusetts soldiers killed in the line of duty. He approached Rob Hale '84, CEO of Granite Communications and former Deerfield Trustee, and the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund was born. To date, the MSL Fund has raised $3 million to help the children of fallen Massachusetts servicemen and women pay for college.
The original goal of the fund was to raise $600,000. According to a recent article in the Boston Business Journal, "Donations have grown on pace with the amount of children who are eligible for the MSL fund. Five years ago, there were 20 children. Now there are 51 children eligible to receive assistance from the MSL Fund. The MSL Fund awards up to $10,000 per year, per son or daughter attending a four-year college."
Trovato and Hale plan to continue the partnership for as long as the wars continue. "We're honored to be part of the cause," said Hale.
