September 22, 2009 | Congratulations to Michael Sucsy '91, whose film "Grey Gardens" won an incredible six Emmys, including Outstanding Made for TV Movie! Sucsy wrote and directed "Grey Gardens." The film debuted on HBO on April 18th and stars Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. Jessica Lange received her first Emmy, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries) for her portrayal of Jackie Kennedy Onassis' eccentric aunt, Edith "Big Edie" Beale in the film. Ken Howard also took home his first Emmy (Outstanding Supporting Actor for a Miniseries or Movie) for his portrayal of Phelan Beale.
Sucsy was determined to tell the story of the Beale's and spent several years working on the screenplay adaptation. The success of "Grey Gardens" has catapulted the talented Director's career. He is now at work on a range of projects, and is currently directing "The Goree Girls," a musical set in the 1940's that tells the true story of eight female prisoners in Texas who form a popular country-western band. The movie will star Jennifer Anniston, who is also producing the film.
