 As far as the Deerfield Academy boys’ tennis program is concerned, winning championships has been as easy as 1 … 2 … 3.
Through the years, the teams have captured one national title, two New England Championships and three Kingswood-Oxford School Tournaments, most recently in 2003 when Deerfield rang up an 8-3 season record.
The tennis facility at Deerfield boasts 23 “no fault” cushioned hard courts. In fact, the All-American Sports Tennis Camp and the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Camp have made periodic use of these courts for summer clinics.

A 1955 graduate, Jay Morsman returned to Deerfield in 1960 and coached boys JV tennis until 1985, when he took over the varsity program. Under his direction, the team has captured one national title, a pair of New England Championships, and three Kingswood-Oxford Tournament crowns.
In his time with the soccer, hockey, and tennis programs, Jay has amassed more than 1000 wins and continues to add to that number with each of those teams. In the fall he coaches JV soccer, and in the winter he works with the JV hockey team.
Jay also serves as the Academy’s Director of Sports Information and Facilities, and as Director of the Dining Hall. His wife, Mimi, is the Academy's Director of Alumni Relations. |

Bill, Deerfield Class of '77, began working at the Academy in 2008 after a 25-year career in international business. He earned a BA in economics from the University of Florida, a MIB from the University of South Carolina's school of international business, and is completing his MSEd in Educational Leadership through the University of New England. A native of Argentina, Bill has lived and worked throughout Latin America, Western Europe, and South Africa. He lives in Greenfield with his wife Margaret and his two daughters, Lizzie '11 and Dana. |
