The Library
The Boyden Library supports the intellectual growth, personal exploration, and creative opportunities offered to Deerfield Academy students by providing comfortable spaces for individual or group study and a collection of over 85,000 books, research databases, periodicals, audio books, DVDs, CDs, and more.
Deerfield Academy supports the important role that technology plays in education by providing ubiquitous access to a variety of technologies and the knowledge to use these tools appropriately and effectively. Today every faculty member and all students have laptops, every academic building and all public spaces have wireless networking available, and all student rooms are wired with high-speed network ports. The Academy believes that providing a standard laptop to every student guarantees compatibility and reliability and provides access to our rich technology resources from the first day of school.
Deerfield faculty make extensive use of our online course management system, Moodle, providing students with access to course materials and collaborative tools wherever and whenever they need it. With the establishment of our Deerfield Laptop Program, teachers can anticipate that every student will have appropriate and equal technology both in and out of class. Teachers are incorporating the advantages of mobile computing into the curriculum in a variety of valuable ways, using the new technologies as an extension of our traditional classroom tools to support active thinking, collaboration, communication, and inspiration. Teaching and learning has truly become “anywhere, anytime.”
We are especially excited about the opportunities in the Koch Center, our new science, math, and technology building, where opportunities for collaboration are enriched and state-of-the-art technology enhances creativity, exploration, and innovation.
